@MsSarjen SPOILERS!! — The kids had to agree with their mother and stay up there until gramps died and they didn’t feel it was 100% nessesary to escape until they found out they were poisoned – they weren’t gonna escape just because Grandma was a bitch to them, would they? or because Cathy had her hair cut. Maybe when they were starved, but they couldn’t escape that easily by climbing out (there were fierce guard dogs, remember?) or with John (he was a big guy) lurking in the mansion.
@cutiegirlygirl123 That makes no sense. They could easily overtake the granny, still it was only the small ones who tried until the end of the film. The older kids are far to meak and accepting of their situation. Good film, I liked it. But I think it would have made more sense if Chris and Cathy were younger.
OMG i love this movie! I read the book 2 years back and they did this movie so well! All most exactly like the book! O and Deane Shafortock i totally agree with you :P
@DeaneShafortock The incest and the fact that the mother doesn’t die are actually very big concepts to leave out. So that makes a big difference between the movie and the book[s].
@TheStrawberryPhantom I’ve read those books zillions if times. If they indeed changed everything, it’d be a completely different film. It takes many viewings of the movie to see that actually it’s quite faithful apart from leaving out the incest and changing the ending, which are the most important changes, the other ones don’t count because they are small and don’t change the story much – changing the mouse’s name changes the story? or hacking off the hair instead or tarring it? No.
@DeaneShafortock Um did you even read the book? Actually it was a whole series. And they just about changed almost everything. It’s a good movie but it’s not faithful to the book at all.
@johnnytastetest she said that she didn’t have any skills “an ornament” so the whole point was her to go to some school to learn typing but she ended up getting married or didn’t plan on getting educated at all.
@johnnytastetest The book explains this. Their mother was a spoiled and pampered by both her father and her husband. She never developed any skills for a job or learned a thing about surviving on her own without her husband. She was weak and saw this as a perfect opportunity to return at the family mansion and plead to be let in her father’s will.
I liked the book better, but this is one of the best book adaptations I’ve seen, it did follow the book except for the ending and the relationship between Chris and Cathy
I just read this book..I actually got it from my grandmother’s house…the movie is just a bit different but not much though….except for the part when Chris rapes his sister for kissing their mother’s new husband….
actually here’s the trick. i went to ugetify..com to convert this video to an mp3.
I remember watching this as a young child and being creeped out by that eerie music alone. Watching it now, I still am.
wow this chick who plays Cathy REALLY sucks at acting. Why did they pick her????

@MsSarjen Because they have no control on what they want to do
@DeaneShafortock Except in the book the mother doesnt die
If two of the kids are so old/big – how can they let themselves be treated like they do later in the film?

@johnnytastetest Could not agree more. And to add to your comment, even poor individuals have heard about life insurance.
“We had to sell everything we owned just to survive — and when that money ran out…”
Why didn’t their mother just get a job? Sheeesh.
