Flowers of the Forest by Mike Oldfield.

The forest is beautiful, it has his own unexpected beauty and mystic. You hear it all in this song by Mike Oldfield from his CD Voyager.

The Pipers would play this lament on Rememberance Sunday, when I was young lad in the Army.

Good on you Mike ! From a sScotsman

@DamnationGod And feel you happy now? :-)

Just really feel the need to note that the forest is a she, not a he. :P

I agree

today there is no set rules on pipers and tunes.
no more squabbling over beautiful music

hahahahaha thats so funny really it is, can send you a copy if you like hahaha way to funny.

way to funny i think invernesspiper may have gone back to his scots guard piping with his head hung in shame and back to his learning chanter which he needs to do

Amen to that!!

What’s with all the arguing ? Just enjoy the music which – by the way – IS “Flowers of the Forest” – the late Queen Mothers’ favourite piece of music.

Oh excuse us! Next time we have a question about love or the meaning of life we will consult the “The Scots Guard Book of standard pipe settings”…….fucking spotter

The mastery of any artist is to present a unique or alternate impression, perspective or interpretation to the observer or listener. It should only be performed as a funeral dirge? Why? (eg.) He’s not allowed to integrate two melodies in one piece? Why? I’ve heard fiddle medleys morph from one reel to another in one piece. Can’t it be done on the bagpipes? Oldfield has reinterpreted this piece of music with mastery. It is called “artistic license.”

@invernesspiper

Well shame upon you invernesspiper as from one piper to another, the first part of this is indeed flowers of the forest and the second part is mingulay boat song. They are both marches and both can be played at 2/4 and 3/4 depending upon the situation. Having played with a brass band both of these tunes you adjust which is what has happen here. Also they tunes are being played not sung

I’ll fiinish with this Flowers nis a 2/4 slow march while mingulay is a 3/4 slow march

With all my respect, I don’t think this is the place for this kind of discussions. I buy an album with music from Mike Oldfield, on that album is a song called Flowers of the Forest, do I have to check the entire internet if Mike Oldfield has made a fault? I think that you contact then in this case Mike Oldfield about this, not me, I haven’t made this song. Only the video!

This is what bothers me. People don’t do thier research. The Scots Guard Book of standard pipe settings has the music for this and Mingulay Song. They are two different tunes. If you listen to Isla St Clair sing Flowers Of The Forest The words won’t fit into this music. The chorus played here ” Heel er ho boys let her go go boys bring her head round into the weather”.

I may hope that Mike Oldfield know what he has written on his own album :-). I love to hear you play this by the way!
