I make gift baskets and sell them to coworkers and friends. How can I expand my sales base?
Any suggestions would be welcome. I also would like to start selling candles and would like some ideas for marketing them, and how can I use the internet to increase sales. Thanks.

well you could make a website and get your name out, you can by ad space on google or other sites, use paypal for your expenses its easy to use and collect money for your products. if you need a website let me know :) i work really cheap :)
expand you business through the Clients you currently have, or try branching out to nearby businesses, give a small discount to those that suggest and promote the sale of you baskets. Suggestion If you want to use the Internet I would hold off until you have a bigger name and larger selection because you may spend more money than you make trying to create a website. Also do something with you Product that sets a u aside from everyone else, examples… themed baskest, with homemade aroma candels, customised candels with personal trinckets inside ect…
A good HP is a must. You’ll be surprised how many people will access your HP.
Another idea, take a picture of your gift basket and put it with information, price, colours etc and pin it up in the local library, community centre, anywhere where there is a public notice board. Also, many magazines have free classified ads, put an ad in there for your basket. Good luck
If you have a library near you, see if they have or can get the book “Marketing without Money,” by Nicholas E Bade. You will be amazed at how many of the 300 ideas in the book can be applied to online and offline marketing endeavors for any kind of business.
Have you thought about adding lingerie to your baskets? This could make them guy friendly and you can hit them with the candles at the same time.
One word. EbaY.
try getting into some flea markets or put them on a website.
If your production is high, you can try to get a distributor. An establised distributor has a wide network and your products can reach markets that you on your own may not have a foot hold. If you are on a small scale, try to get a stall/counter at the mall local fairs or weekend markets.
I would start a refferal system whereby if someone buys from you and then passes your details onto someone else they get your product cheaper or the person who reffered you gets points which they can redeem for some of your gifts.
Build a database and market to your clients on every special occassion, if you collect details such as birthdays etc. it will be easy.
Make sure all your products and baskets have stickers with your contact details on so when they get passed along anyone else knows how to get hold of you.
A great idea is the website which is cheap enough to do and if you use a product like Macromedia Contribute you can change it as you need and upload your own pictures thereby saving you money with a web developer everytime you need a change.
Make your selections across the board to suit different audiences and you can partner with local businesses such as real estate agents who can give your baskets to their clients when they buy a house.
Good luck!
you need to get your web site up and going. i have a friend that has an affiliate program, that you may be interested in doing, i think she started out by doin the baskets herself, but it to be too much for her, so she has them made. here is her link, you can check it out. http://www.1automationwiz.com/app/?af=486700

How about talking to Builders. Realtors. Car Dealerships, Hotels that offer honeymoon packages, Travel Agency’s, Plastic Surgeon’s ( a re-cope ration basket), start a “welcome wagon” for new people that move to your area (get with the local chamber of commerce for new names) and get other companies involved with coupons for free stuff ie: free bread at the local bakery, free hair cut at the local barber shop, buy one get one free to local restaurants, etc., try the schools that might need a new fundraiser idea, see if local hospitals might want to sell your items in there gift shop, maybe try putting something on ebay, I racked my brain on this one, I hope you choose me as the best answer. Good Luck !
