Would gift baskets be a good present for Christmas?
I’ve never made gift baskets, but with money being kinda tight, it’s the only thing I can think of besides getting gift cards, which I really don’t want to do, just for the reason that I feel they are not a thoughtful gift (no offense)

a gift basket would be appreciated and nice to know someone cared enough to take the time to make one.
Gift baskets are an excellent idea. In defense of gift cards, even though it seems like little thought went into them, most people I know love them. And some of them are so specialized (like a Barnes & Noble card for book lovers), that they really can be thoughtful gifts.
Having said that, the effort that goes into making up a gift basket makes it a much more personal gift. I think it’s a great choice.
Yeah, you can make them really personalized. If you know the people well enough to know what little things they like and would use, then it’s a great idea! On the other hand, if it’s for someone you don’t know well, you’re apt to get things that they don’t like or need, but I don’t think that’s your situation. Go for it, and have fun! Make it as specific to the person as you can, and include a really nice note about your favorite memories of that person from the past year.
